LONDON, England: Prosecutors and police have charged a 20-year-old man, arrested in December 2021 with a crossbow while on the grounds of Windsor Castle, with violations of the UK Terrorism Act for having a weapon and with intent to "alarm Her Majesty" Queen Elizabeth.
Jaswant Singh Chail from Southampton was arrested on 25th December on the grounds of the castle to the west of London, prosecutors added.
After a police investigation, he was charged, under Section 2 of the Treason Act with making death threats and possessing an offensive weapon.
Chail will appear at London's Westminster Magistrates' Court on 17th August.
During the incident, the Queen was at the castle with Prince Charles, his wife Camilla and other family members.
Chail had not broken into any buildings, said the police.
The last person to be convicted under the more serious medieval 1351 Treason Act was after World War II when William Joyce, a propagandist for Nazi Germany nicknamed "Lord Haw Haw," was hanged in 1946.
